CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — During a press conference in Cameron County, County Judge Eddie Treviño spoke out on the new COVID-19 cases, confirmed over the weekend as well as discussing shelter turnout.
Treviño said there were 300 new reported cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, a 13 percent increase.
He also spoke on the impact of Hurricane Hanna saying that despite an availability of shelters, a lot of water rescues did take place.
“Not one family showed up and I think that may have had to do with the fact that certain families probably thought to bear out the storm at home as opposed to getting into an enclosed area with other potential families,” said Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño.
Two shelters were open to the public in La Feria and Los Fresnos, both had low attendance.
