Hidalgo county officials speak on hospital capacity

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas – Monday, Hidalgo County officials held a press conference to discuss the COVID-19 crisis impacting the county.

County Judge Richard Cortez was joined by local hospital administrators to provide an update on their response to the ongoing pandemic.

Cortez said hospitals are nearing capacity and health professionals are needing to take additional steps to treat patients as well as protect themselves.

“Today, we find ourselves very close to reaching capacity. Where our healthcare providers are having to take a lot of necessary steps to be able to care for those people that need to be cared for,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez.

Cortez added that his office has been in constant communication with hospital administrators to better understand the needs of hospitals in the area.
