Hidalgo County assessing hurricane damage

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — Tuesday, Hidalgo County officials assessed damage caused by Hurricane Hanna.

Precinct 1 Commissioner David Fuentes said he spent the day in the most impacted areas.

He spoke on what his office is trying to do as far as getting more aid from other counties.

“This is the first time the judge has been through a hurricane and we wanted him to see like some of the critical parts of our drainage and how certain things were operating so that he could understand better what our challenges are here in the county and Valley wide,” said David Fuentes, Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct 1.

Fuentes said he was given the opportunity to get a view of the damage from above as he rode in a helicopter over impacted areas of the county.

He added that his office is trying to develop methods to drain the receding water.
