RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Some businesses are creating new guidelines to ensure safety inside their stores by implementing a face mask policy.
Doctors are working to get a better understanding of the virus. So far, they know face masks offer a form of protection.
“Just like the no shoes no shirt no service. So too with the masks. No shoes no shirt no mask no service. And I for one have that policy here in my office,” said Aurelio Garza.
Texas is reopening the economy in phases. Aurelio Garza is an attorney here in the Valley and told us businesses have the right to require face masks.
“A private company and a private individual can exclude anybody it wants as long as it’s not discriminating,” Garza said.
You cannot sue a business for enforcing their policy and if retailers call the police you can be arrested and cited for trespassing.
“The policies are in place not to violate your constitutional right. They’re being put in place by these private individuals, these private companies to protect the public from the pandemic, from COVID-19,” Garza said.
