Governor Greg Abbott meets virtually with Rio Grande officials to discuss COVID-19

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (KVEO) — Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott held virtual meetings with Hidalgo and Cameron County officials to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 virus as well as ongoing needs in the Valley.

“Our ongoing collaboration with local officials in the Rio Grande Valley is critical to effectively combating COVID-19 and keeping these communities safe,” said Governor Abbott in a release.

According to Cameron County officials, Judge Eddie Treviño was able to discuss receiving additional CARES funding, local authority being needed to enforce and address issues with social gatherings, alternative care and step-down facilities to alleviate capacity problems at hospitals, and investing and upgrading internet infrastructure to accommodate distance learning.
