French fry shortage

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – There could be a shortage of french fries in the New Year according to Bloomberg news.

Cold weather and the impact of Hurricane Dorian has damaged potato crops in the United States and Canada.

That means smaller spuds and pressure on supplies for french fry processors. French fry makers tend to use longer potatoes.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is estimating domestic potato output will drop more than 6% this year, that’s the lowest level since 2010.
