Former Rio Grande Valley Deputy Chief Patrol Agent to attend State of the Union


RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – The former Deputy Chief Patrol Agent for the Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector will be attending next week’s State of the Union.

Just this week, Raul Ortiz was promoted to Deputy Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, the second in command.

He will be attending the State of the Union as President Trump’s guest.

Local 23 was told that the Deputy Chief has spent the last six of 29 years with the Border Patrol on the southwest border and has performed all his duties with distinction and excellence.

Ortiz has earned several awards including the Certificate of Achievement from the State of Texas and the Superior Civilian Service Medal, the Department of Defense’s third-highest civilian honor.
