FEMA opens Safe Room for those affected by flooding

LA FERIA, Texas – FEMA opening a safe room in Cameron County providing relief to residents affected by recent flooding.

Those affected by the floods can visit the FEMA center in La Feria where they can receive aid from local, state and federal organizations, including low interest loans from the Small Business Administration. FEMA representatives ask that you bring a list of damages, along with bank account, social security, and insurance policy numbers to qualify for services from the disaster recovery center.

The safe room is open seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A FEMA media specialist, says the agency will remain in the area for as long as needed.

Maria Padron, FEMA Media Specialist, “People can come here. They can register. They can check on the status of their case. If they have any issues, any concerns or they need more information about recovery efforts, they can come and we try to help them.”

Two new centers in Willacy and Hidalgo Counties will open by the end of this week.
