Emergency alert sent out asking residents to stay home


RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – An emergency alert was sent out to residents across the Rio Grande Valley, Sunday, asking residents to stay home, stay safe, and stop the spread.

COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the Rio Grande Valley and residents in Cameron County and Hidalgo County received an emergency alert urging people to stay home.

Cameron County’s alert message also stated that local hospitals were reaching capacity.

Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez said this should be a wakeup call to Valley residents.

“The four counties here, we have been begging to take these precautions to be careful. We’re doing the best we can,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez.

County Judge Eddie Treviño said if you must leave your home for emergency activities, to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
