MCALLEN, Texas (KVEO) — Democratic Senate candidate Mary Jennings Hegar, who is running against Senator John Cornyn, toured the Valley this morning.
Hegar met with health and local elected officials listened to their needs and changes they would like to see.
During the meeting, officials highlighted the importance of increasing medical staff, structures, and addressing the constant flooding issues.
Hegar said her visit is necessary as it allows her to understand where communities need the most help.
“A lot of people who are running for office, tend to wait and see where the wind blows to give their attention and their emphasis, and while right now I am very frustrated because there is not much I can do to get resources down here because I am not the sitting senator yet. I am hoping that if I come down here, and we get some media and we get some attention to the plight of the healthcare workers and other essential workers down here in the Valley, that maybe that attention will require the attention of the people that can do something about this right now,” said Mary Jennings Hegar.
Hegar ended the day volunteering at catholic charities.
