Delayed sentencing for man who pleaded guilty in 2017 murder

EDINBURG, Texas – 23-year-old Alex Arevalo of Alamo was expected to be sentenced on Sept. 4. Arevalo negotiated a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, but because of pending DNA results, that has been delayed. Arevalo entered a guilty plea in March of this year for the death of 41-year-old Nicolas Anthony Bazan in June 2017.

Police say the victim was seen with cash at the Orchard lounge. He was found dead from a single gunshot. The victim was also discovered with his pockets turned inside out. Authorities say Arevalo admitted to the shooting and is one of four charged with the crime.

According to court records prosecutors are recommending a 45-year sentence for Arevalo. Sentencing has been rescheduled for November.
