County unveils new tool to aid in natural disasters

EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County adding to its assets when it comes to aiding in natural disasters.

The county’s Community Service Agency (CSA) unveiling its special response mobile which will extend the county’s services to areas in need. It will serve residents who can’t travel out of their homes during disasters.

Jaime Longoria, Hidalgo County CSA Executive Director, “Once emergency management tells us that it’s safe for us to come into an area, then we can go in and set up. It’s got its own generator system, it’s also got our communications system, so that we can provide services and be able to access the internet as we need to. It’s got an encryption software to protect data as it’s being transmitted. It is something that can help us provide services.”

The unit came with a price tag of $70,000.
