County judge signs Declaration of Disaster for Hidalgo County

EDINBURG, Texas — Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez issuing a proclamation declaring a local state of disaster as a result of damages from Monday’s torrential storm.

The declaration reads in part, “the Judge of the County of Hidalgo has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to protect the public health, safety and general wellbeing of County citizens, alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property.”

The declaration is in effect for seven days, unless extended by Commissioners Court. The next Commissioners Court will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 1.
