MCALLEN, Texas – Several lawmakers, including Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, have sent a letter to U.S. Customs Border Protection Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan on the wrongful detention and treatment of a U.S. citizen.
The letter comes after Erwin Galicia-Chapa was detained at a checkpoint. He was on his way to a college soccer tryout even though he presented a valid Texas drivers license. Galicia-chapa was held at a detention facility for three weeks.
It is important to note that Erwin’s mother did alter documents she presented to agents. The letter is also asking for clarification to congressional testimony by border officials.
