Coast Guard rescues migrants south of Peñitas

EDINBURG, Texas – The U.S. Coast Guard, assisting Customs and Border Protection as a raft was sinking in the Rio Grande. The raft was full with with migrants trying to cross illegally into the U.S. The raft was so full, several people on board fell off or had to jump.

At that moment the Coast Guard went into action rescuing 12 immigrants from the river’s current. Those rescued were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol. The immigrants are from El Salvador, Honduras and Cuba.
