City of Pharr breaks ground on innovative educational facility


PHARR, Texas – A project which will bring an Olympic size swimming pool and diving facilities to the Rio Grande Valley is now officially underway.

A groundbreaking on the northwest corner of Sioux Road and the U.S. 281 intersection is where the facility will be constructed. The project is a collaborative effort between the city of Pharr, UTRGV, and the PSJA ISD.

UTRGV also announcing plans to construct a Sports Medicine Institute adjacent to the facility to teach medical students. PSJA students will use the facility for swimming practice and competitions.

Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez says the innovative and educational facility will serve the community for future generations.
