HARLINGEN, Texas – With the 4th of July around the corner many are looking forward to the outdoor festivities, however, with the pandemic expect to see some changes.
“It is going to be a little different this time around,” said Harlingen Public Relations Officer Irma Garza.
“It’s going to be like a drive-in,” she explained.
Due to restrictions, the city decided not to host the annual festival and concert for now.
The 4th of July event is the second event held in the city that Garza says has been impacted by the pandemic.
However, Harlingen is not the only city that is making making modifications.
The fireworks will happen in McAllen but you won’t be able to see them in person.
Instead the city will be broadcasting them so you can watch at home.
The city also tells KVEO-TV that the annual 4th of July parade and festival will be canceled this year.
Brownsville and South Padre Island also plan to have their fireworks show continue but are still discussing the details.
“Right now we are looking at a month-to-month,” Garza added. ” We’re still trying to come up with the best safety plans.”
