Cielo Vista Walmart reopens

News

EL PASO, Texas – The Walmart where 22 people were killed in a mass shooting, including Leonardo Campos from the Rio Grande Valley, has reopened for business today.

Local 23 was told the El Paso community is trying to move past the deadly August 3rd shooting.

A crowd gathered outside the Walmart this morning as an “El Paso Strong” banner was unfurled.

A steady flow of shoppers could be seen, some sharing what their experience was like stepping back into the store after the tragedy.

“I made it a point to get up early to be here. To show my support to El Paso, to the families that lost loved ones to Walmart, maybe to show the nation that you can’t hold El Paso down for long,” said Alecia McKinney, a customer.

Shoppers noted increased security inside the Walmart.

Investigators say the gunman, who also wounded 25 people, wanted to target Mexican people.
