Child pornography is a growing problem in the valley

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – According to Starr County authorities, child pornography is a growing problem in the Rio Grande Valley.

Starr County authorities say cases of children sending nude photos through social media have increased in the last two months.

Among multiple open investigations is an 11-year-old boy who was detained for exploiting nudes of other children.

Authorities are also investigating 20 other people for sharing content of minors.

“We are encouraging parents to take some sort of measure control over their children’s mobile phones, limiting their uses, checking its contents, and using it to monitor their children’s whereabouts. We would like parents to take the extra step to go beyond that, to get their children’s phone and actually look at it,” says Victor Canales, a Starr County District Attorney.

Authorities tell us at least 20 victims have been identified, and about 10 cases have been investigated in the last two months.
