MCALLEN, Texas – Nikki Rowe High School hosting an information session this morning about the 35-plus Career Technical Education (CTE) programs the district offers.
The district’s students and parents had the chance to meet with industry representatives and learn about the opportunities available across 14 different career clusters.
Enrollment and completion of any CTE program is free to students. Close to 5,000 professional licenses and certifications were earned by McAllen ISD high school students last year.
Linda Babauta, McAllen ISD Career Technical Education counselor, “We want students to make sure they’re well-prepared with the knowledge, skills and certifications that they need to meet current and future demand. The competition is tough. I always tell students ‘you need to make yourself marketable. What’s going to make you stand out above somebody else?'”
McAllen officials will host similar sessions at McAllen High School and McAllen Memorial High School next week.
