CAMERON COUNTY, Texas – Extra precautions are being taken at the Cameron County jail to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Sheriff Omar Lucio held a press conference to speak about the checks and balances in place for staff, inmates, and visitors.
This included a medical triage area outside the jail to check anyone going into the facility. The sheriff explained that this medical triage area is where a medical professional will check everyone’s temperature.
“Every inmate that is brought in there, before we bring him into the facility or the jail we’re going to get all the vitals and also get all the information that we need and make sure that he is okay before we go ahead and put him in the jail, okay?” said Sheriff Omar Lucio.
The sheriff said other measures are being taken to control the spread of COVID-19, including doctors speaking to patients over the internet as part of their telemedicine plan.
Court proceedings will also be held over video conference to keep close contact to a minimum.
