Brownsville giving energy conservation notice

News

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Electric providers across the state are asking you to help conserve energy in order to reduce stress on the Texas electric grid.

Recently the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has been sending warnings of over-consumption during days with high heat. ERCOT is asking residents to voluntarily monitor and reduce the amount of energy used on a daily basis.

Local providers tells us even the small things can make a big difference in preventing mass outages.

Ryan Greenfeld, Brownsville PUB, “You can avoid doing things like washing clothes or washing dishes during that time. Unplug or turn off anything that isn’t currently being used. Just these kind of small things make a big difference.

The state agency estimates that the Texas grid sees the most consumption on Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
