The city of Brownsville confirmed that an employee of the city tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the release, the individual works at City Plaza.
The employees was tested on April 3. The test results came in on April 7, said the release.
The city says it has started deep cleaning the facilities. City Plaza will also be closed on April 8.
The release adds they are looking into who was in contact with the employee and taking the necessary precautions.
At this time, the city is unable to determine if the exposure to the COVID-19 virus occurred at the workplace or in the community.
The city continues to follow CDC guidelines for workplace safety, promotes good hygiene practices, and shares health, safety and travel guidelines with all employees.
The release adds the city is working with the Cameron County Health Department.
The name of the employee has not been released due to privacy laws.
