Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents seized almost 800 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated of $635K, over the weekend.

According to a news release, one of the five seizure occurred Sunday at the immigration checkpoint near Falfurrias.

A service K-9 alerted to a Ford F-250 in the primary lane, the truck was referred to secondary for further inspection. Agents discovered 23 bundles hidden in the pickup weighing 283 pounds, according to the release.

The other four seizures occurred in both the Rio Grande City and Fort Brown station’s area.

Agents seized over 500 pounds of marijuana in Escobares, La Casita and Brownsville, during inspection.

Customs and Border Protection encourages residents to report any suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

“Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.” said the release.
