WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas – Two people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a Texas church Sunday.
Within seconds, members of the church security team shot and killed the suspect.
Cameras inside West Freeway Church of Christ were rolling when a man pulled a weapon and fired, killing two people.
At least two armed security church members pulled their weapons, one of them shot and killed the gunman.
“I heard the first shot go off. I wasn’t sure what, until I smelled the cordite,” Said John Richardson, a church member.
John Richardson and his wife, Diana, were two of the 200 plus attending the White Settlement church service.
Minister Britt Farmer was presiding, “We lost two great men today, but it could’ve been a lot worse.”
Authorities indicate the unidentified shooter had a shotgun and entered the church alone.
He apparently has ties to the White Settlement area.
“The shooter was in the area, has been in the area from what we can gather in the investigation, relatively transient, but has roots in this area,” said Mathew Desarno FBI Special Agent In-Charge.
“Preliminary reports say he entered the church and sat down with parishioners. He got up from that position, pulled out a shotgun and fired at a parishioner,” says Chief J.P. Bevering of the White Settlement Police Department.
From the church’s camera, you can see the armed church security members who quickly stopped the threat.
“It cannot be overstated how important it is that everyone recognize what took place here today. The citizens inside that church undoubtedly saved 242 other parishioners,” said Jeoff Williams of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“And to have something like this happen destroys my heart and when I say destroys, it destroys because there is evil in this world,” Said Britt Farmer.
