A “Rowdy” wellness at Brownsville elementary

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Students at El Jardin Elementary in Brownsville learning about eating healthy and exercising from the Dallas Cowboys.

“Rowdy” the official Cowboys’ mascot met up with students as part of the ‘Fuel Up To Play 60 program.’ The national program is part of an on-going effort by the National Dairy Council, the NFL, and the USDA to promote healthy living.

Rene Gutierrez, PhD – Brownsville ISD Superintendent, “It’s absolutely important for us to promote good health at a young age for our students. It can prevent a lot of diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, which are really high in adults in the Rio Grande Valley. We have to start them at a young age.”

A total of two rallies were held for all of the students. The school district says they are excited about the opportunity to inspire the children.
