86 years in prison for convicted killer of health provider

EDINBURG, Texas – A man found guilty in the October 2017 strangulation death of his mother’s caregiver has learned his fate this afternoon.

37-year-old Juan Manuel Hernandez was sentenced to 86 years in prison for the murder of 61-year-old Alisa Maria Garza. Hernandez was convicted back in August after a week long trial. Hernandez claimed to have found Garza’s body in her car in front of his apartment, then took the body inside his apartment before notifying police.

The lengthy sentencing came after testimony was given that Garza’s daughter committed suicide because of depression that may have been linked to her mother’s death.
