11 miles of levee wall system coming in September

News

HIDALGO, Texas – Approximately 11 miles of new levee wall system is coming to the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have awarded a contract of $300 million to construct a new levee wall in Hidalgo.

The project will begin in the intersection of Conway Road and the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission Levee in Mission extending to San Juan. The levee will include all weather roads, lighting, cameras, and other technology.

Officials say construction is expected to begin on September 30 and will take place where no barriers currently exist.
