A 15-year-old Juarez-Lincoln High School student used a screwdriver to injure another teen on Wednesday.
The incident happened at about 11:45 a.m. when students were walking to their next class, according to La Joya Independent School District police Chief Raul Gonzalez.
Faculty members and school police officers were able to break up the fight quickly, Gonzalez said.
The 15-year-old student is being detained at the Hidalgo County juvenile detention facility.
School administration expects to discipline the student, according to Gonzalez.
Investigators believe the incident was isolated and a motive has not been determined.
