Harlingen police arrested a 23-year-old woman accused of spitting on two officers’ faces after being involved in a crash this week.

Stephanie Rivera was arrested and charged with two counts of assault on a public servant and several misdemeanors on Monday.

Police responded to the 200 block of North 77 Sunshine Strip at about 1:23 p.m.

Rivera was asked to perform sobriety tests but refused, according to information released by the Harlingen Police Department.

Rivera was arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. An officer was walking her over to the patrol unit when she began twisting her body, kicked and pulled away, police said.

She then spit on two officers’ faces, according to a news release.

Rivera was charged with two counts of assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony; resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor; and driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor.

Her bond was set at $24,971.50 on all charges.
