Additional round of antiviral drug distributed to Hidalgo, Cameron to help treat COVID-19 patients


AUSTIN (KVEO) — The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) will be distributing 13 cases of the antiviral drug remdesivir to nine hospitals located in Hidalgo and Cameron Counties.

Governor Greg Abbott made the announcement sating the cases are provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the release, this is the fifth round of of cases distributed.

Thanks to the continued assistance from our partners at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, hospitals across Texas remain equipped to respond to COVID-19. As we continue in our efforts to combat this virus, the state of Texas remains committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our communities.

The release states the remdesivir has shown to help speed up the recovery of those fighting COVID-19. It is also mentioned that each hospital will determine how to distribute the drug.
