MCALLEN, Texas (KVEO) — The city of McAllen has released a modified plan for their 4th of July celebration in order to keep the community safe amid COVID-19.

The city says this year’s celebration will aim to carry the spirit of previous years, although the celebration will not look the same.

McAllen will be having activities for individuals to participate in leading to the day. Some of those activities include decorating homes, crafts and activities and a virtual 4K, said a release.

The city will also keep the fireworks show in place, those within a one-mile radius from the McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium will be able to see the show. The release adds the fireworks show will also be streamed. Viewing from Municipal Park will not be an option.
