Sydney Hernandez is a proud Rio Grande Valley native happy to be the evening anchor in her hometown!

Sydney was raised in Mission, Texas, and is a graduate of La Joya I.S.D.

Sydney joined the CBS 4 team in 2018.

Sydney graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Journalism, Mass Communications and a minor in Political Science from Texas A&M University Kingsville in 2015. Months before her graduation date, Sydney was hired by KWKT- FOX 44 News in Waco, Texas as a news reporter. Sydney was also the exclusive Military reporter for FOX 44 NEWS focusing on Fort Hood, the Military’s largest Army installation in the country. During her career, Sydney was hand selected by The White House to travel with Former President Donald J. Trump during his two trips to the border.

Sydney’s passion lies in telling immigration stories on the border and highlighting the positive across the Rio Grande Valley. 

Sydney has been nominated for an EMMY Award three times and won a Texas Associated Press award for her work on the border.

On her days off, Sydney focuses on community service and giving back to the area that helped raise her by being involved with volunteer work at Edinburg Crime Stoppers, Food Bank of the RGV and the Special Olympics of South Texas. 

Sydney is the founder of Sydney’s Soldiers, a non-profit organization that packs and ships care packages to U.S. Service members across the country and internationally to boost morale and decrease suicide rates among our military.
