Fire crews in Matamoros, Mexico continue to battle a massive tire fire near the Matamoras/Reynosa Highway.
Matamoros civil protection told Action 4 News the fire started just before 7pm in a rural area off of kilometer five of the Matamoras/Reynosa Highway.
No injuries were reported and no homes are in danger.
A large plume of smoke could be seen from Brownsville---however no outside agencies, including Brownsville Fire Department, have been called in to assist in putting out the flames.
The cause of the fire remains unclear at this time.
Civil Protection officials said they will investigate what caused these tires to go up in flames as soon as the fire is put out.
