A Brownsville man was arrested after he was caught drinking and driving as well as providing alcohol to his 16-year-old nephew.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call about a possible car accident around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
When a deputy arrived to the scene, he saw the driver of a Nissan sitting half way outside the driver’s seat.
The deputy said a strong smell of alcohol was coming from the car. He also said it was clear that the driver, Juan Villarreal, was highly intoxicated.
Villarreal’s nephew was sitting in the passenger seat. The 16-year-old told the deputy that his uncle allowed him to drink from a liquor bottle that was in the car.
The deputy said the teen was not intoxicated to the degree he would need to be placed in custody.
Deputies assisting the case dropped off the 16-year-old at his mother’s house.
Villarreal was placed under arrest for providing alcohol to a minor.
The bottle of Jameson alcohol, which was less than half full, was taken from the car and logged as evidence.
