A student in Harlingen was run over Wednesday morning around 7:30 am right outside of Vernon Middle School.

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District spokesperson Shane Strubhart confirmed with Action 4 that the student was hit by a distracted driver.

Apparently it happened at the west side of campus right on the crosswalk located on 13th Street as the girl was crossing the street.

According to Strubhart a security guard was at the crosswalk and was attempting to get the attention of the driver, but he did not stop.

The child was taken to the hospital and her condition is unknown at this time.

The driver did stop after the accident but it is still unclear if he will face any charges.
