RIO GRANDE VALLEY -- A busy forecast for the weekend: the chance for showers and thunderstorms plus the potential for coastal flooding.
A well established ribbon of low pressure stretches from the western Gulf of Mexico down into the Bay of Campeche. The area of low pressure will draw moisture and energy our way like sucking soda through a straw.
The best chance for rain will crank up early Sunday morning along the coast and work its way inland throughout the day with showers and thunderstorms.
Another factor will be the possibility of coastal flooding and aggressive surf along our shore. We should see seas increasing from 4 to 6 feet Saturday to 6 to 8 feet Sunday. I’m sure you surfer folks already have the theme to Hawaii 5-O rumbling in your head while you wait for some wicked waves.
Ida is a whole other issue; she is slated to keep moving north as a tropical storm and eventually punch into the eastern Gulf of Mexico Tuesday of next week. The long range forecast track keeps Ida heading toward the Florida panhandle.
