Severe weather threat remains for the valley
RGV -- They say, "a watched pot never boils," so why am I sitting here staring at the computer screen waiting for thunderstorms to erupt across the Rio Grande Valley?
Because there is still a very strong likelihood severe thunderstorms will explode throughout Deep South Texas later this afternoon or this evening. When those storms do pop they will be capable of producing large hail, heavy downpours, frequent lightning and winds in excess of 60mph.
The root cause of all this "severe weather drama" is an area of low pressure sliding east across Texas, as it churns counterclockwise, like a child's top, it draws moisture and energy northward across the RGV. The mix of moisture, energy, an unstable atmosphere, daytime heating and upper level winds all points to a really good chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Stay tuned!
