Citrus Greening, also called Huanglongbing or Yellow Dragon Disease, is a bacteria that’s threatening the citrus industry.

While Florida might be considering whether or not their crops can survive the greening, experts in the Valley don't want to go that route.

They're choosing to educate the public before it becomes too late.

Many people enjoy eating citrus, but with just one bite from the Asian Citrus Psyllid, the little fruit and all of its citrus cousins can be wipe out with the snap of a finger.

This greening disease isn't affecting the large growers, but those trees growing in your backyard.

While the disease isn't harmful to humans or animals, it can have a devastating effect on this struggling industry.

"We know that the commercial industry is very threatened by the lack of action or uninformed public,” Texas Citrus Mutual’s (TCM) Jacob Sosebee said. “He has no control over the disease in the backyard.”

In an effort to stop the spread before it starts, TCM is hosting a citrus alert event on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the San Juan Public Library.

There, they will discuss the issue and what can be done to keep it confined.

TCM doesn't want to anyone to panic and think that their tree automatically has the disease.

They just want people to be aware and know the signs to look for before it's too late.
