Roperto Villalon, a teacher at Palmview Accelerated Center, was arrested and charged with inappropriately touching a child on Wednesday.

La Joya ISD Police Chief Raul Gonzalez told Action 4 News the 18-year-old victim made the outcry back on January 8, 2013.

After a thorough investigation, Villalon was arrested.

“Because of the students age, it changed the charge," Gonzalez said.

Had the student been under the age of 14, Gonzalez said Villalon would have been charged with indecency with a child, but that does not make what happened any less inappropriate.

Chief Gonzaelz told Action 4 News any student, no matter their age, with a  complained against a teacher should come forward.

"We'll take care of our kids and we'll protect them,” Gonzalez started. “If there are incidents where they feel something was done to them that is inappropriate or not proper conduct report it and we'll conduct the investigation."

While they want students to speak up, Gonzalez cautions parents to discuss with their children what is considered crossing the line.

School administrators told Action 4 News that the case is still under review.

No decisions have been made on what will happen to Villalon.
