Weather threat prompts cancellations at Valley schools

Schools across the Rio Grande Valley are cancelling extra-curricular activities and postponing basketball games in anticipation of tonight's severe weather.
The Valley is bracing for thunderstorms and other severe weather that are expected to roll in starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Cameron County officials already shut down several beaches as a result of strong winds and rising tides.
McAllen ISD
McAllen Independent School District officials are scaling back after school activities to allow students to return home immediately.
Officials cancelled all non-UIL activities and practices due to the weather.
At this time, McAllen UIL basketball and soccer games will continue to take place, pending another review of weather conditions.
Postponed Games
The threat of severe has prompted schools across the Valley to postpone more than 30 boys and girls basketball games scheduled for Tuesday evening:
• Edinburg at Donna
• Brownsville Hanna at Brownsville Lopez
• La Joya Juarez-Lincoln at La Joya Palmview
• La Joya at Edinburg Vela
• Edinburg Economedes at Edinburg North
• PSJA North at McAllen Rowe
• Edcouch-Elsa at valley View
• La Villa at Monte Alto (Girls Only)
• Lyford at La Villa (Boys Only)
• Rio Hondo at Hidalgo (Girls only)
• Roma at Mercedes
• Mission Veterans at Rio Grande City
• Mission at PSJA Southwest
• Brownsville Veterans at Brownsville Pace
• Weslaco East at PSJA Memorial
• PSJA at Weslaco
• McAllen at McAllen Memorial
• PSJA North at McAllen Rowe
• Brownsville Porter at Los Fresnos
All of the games except three games are expected to be played at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The La Villa at Monte Alto girls basketball game has been postponed until 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Lyford at La Villa boys basketball game has been postponed until 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Edcouch-Elsa at Valley View boys & girls hoops games have been postponed until 4:30 and 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Cancelled Game
Tonight's Santa Maria at Raymondville boys basketball game has been cenceled and will not be rescheduled.
They are the only Valley schools to cancel a game and not reschedule it.
Games As Scheduled
Several boys and girls basketball games will continue to take place regardless of weather conditions:
• Harlingen South at Harlingen
• Raymondville at Lyford (Girls Only)
• Port Isabel at La Feria
• Kingsville King at La Grulla
