BROWNSVILLE, TX -- Looking like a team ready for a run into the postseason again, UTB/TSC looked like a buzz-saw in a 6-0 rout over Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer Saturday afternoon.

The win was the ninth straight for the Scorpions, who are now 11-3-1 after a 2-3-1 start. UTB/TSC maintained its hold on first place in the RRAC standings with a 7-0 record.

Saturday was Senior Day for the six Scorpions, including three who have been with the team for four seasons. Omar Apodaca and Rob Burger played two seasons with the Scorpions after transferring from Bethel College (Tenn.), Juan Nava played three years after transferring from Brescia University (Ky.), and Juan Gamboa, Rogelio Perez and Ricky Rodriguez played all four seasons with the Scorpions straight out of high school.

All six started the game and had impacts on the outcome.

"it was a solid performance today, we really moved the ball around well and played some very good stuff at times today," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "We are playing with a lot of confidence and you can see the boys are having fun."

The Scorpions dominated the game, scoring three goals in each half. UTB/TSC took 33 shots, 16 on goal, compared to only seven by SAGU, three on goal.

Aaron Guerrero got the Scorpions on the board in the 26th minute with an assist by Rodriguez.

With only six minutes left in the half, Mario Perez nailed a goal with an assist by Aaron Guerrero. Five minutes later with only 1:07 left until halftime, Rodriguez scored to make it 3-0.

In the second half, Juan Nava scored the first of two goals within a two-minute span. His first was assisted by Aaron Guerrero and Aron Ekberg in the 67th minute. Only two minutes later, he scored with an assist by Ernie Hernandez.

With only five minutes left in the game, Mario Perez scored on what was one of the most beautiful goals ever scored at REK Center Field. Backup goalkeeper Mauricio Lugo, who got an opportunity to be on the field, passed to Perez, who turned upside down and nailed a wheelhouse kick bicycle-style into the net for the final goal.

Juan Gamboa played all 90 minutes for the Scorpions and had three saves.

"I respect SAGU for coming in here and trying to play," Balaguero said. "They worked hard and allowed for an open game. But we are entering the final stretch playing our best soccer of the year."

The Scorpions finish the regular season with two road games against Louisiana State University-Shreveport Thursday, Oct. 28 and at Northwood University Saturday, Oct. 30.
