Greyhounds Will Receive New Uniforms For 2012 Battle of The Arroyo

ARLINGTON, TX -- San Benito ISD's television station KSBG-TV 17 created a powerful video that sheds light on the rivalry that exists between the San Benito Greyhounds and the Harlingen Cardinals, a video that was entered in the 2011 Nike High School Rivalry Tour Contest. Saturday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, between the 3rd & 4th quarters of the 5A Division I  State Championship Game, Nike announced that the Battle of the Arroyo video took top honors in the state of Texas.

The video production shows candid interviews with Athletics Director/Head Coach Spencer Gantt, Action 4 Sports Director Clay Williams and Greyhound football players.

Nike flew Coach Gantt up to the game for the presentation of the three finalists, and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced the San Benito win via taped message on the Cowboys Stadium giant screen television suspended above the field.

For winning the contest, the Greyhounds football players, coaches, and cheerleaders will all receive new, specially designed uniforms and clothing from Nike to debut during the week of the 2012 Battle of the Arroyo.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and administration, I would like to publicly thank all of our students, staff and community members for supporting and casting their votes for our KSBG-TV 17’s video entry,” said San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón.  “We are thankful that we had the community’s full support behind us.  We are excited to have earned this honor.”

Celia Longoria, the district’s Director of Communications, credits the talented and dedicated staff at KSBG-TV 17 for their efforts in creating the winning video.

“It was a total team effort on everyone’s part.  We are extremely blessed to have a dedicated, creative and talented staff here at KSBG-TV 17.  We realize that we could not have done it without the support and encouragement of everyone involved, including our Superintendent, Board of Trustees, students, staff, parents and community,” Longoria said.  “We are grateful that we had the cooperation and support of our students, staff members and our entire community.  They are also winners in this.  We also owe this win to them for helping us achieve success!”

Besides Longoria, other KSBG-TV 17 staff members include Operations Manager David Cortez, TV Production Technicians Isabel Gomez and Balde Olivarez and Secretary Corina De Leon.  Also assisting KSBG TV 17 are members of the extended crew, including Rene Ramirez, Elizabeth Hernandez and A/V Production students Bernaby Castrejon and Marco Rodriguez.
