Broncs 94, Dustdevils 60
Ce’Monay Newell and Erin Lewis each tied school records and the University of Texas-Pan American women’s basketball team set a new single-game school record for three-point field goals with 16 in the Broncs 94-60 victory over Texas A&M International University on Tuesday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Newell tallied nine three-pointers while Lewis dished out 15 assists in the victory. The win is the third straight victory for UTPA.

The Broncs (7-6) built a lead in the first stanza after TAMIU fought to keep it close early. The Dustdevils tied the game at 6-6 on Nikkiti Scott’s lay-up at the 15:29 mark of the first half. The Broncs followed with an 8-0 run including three-point buckets from both Newell and Bianca Torre, giving the Broncs a 14-6 lead with 13:51 to play in the first
With 3:41 remaining in the first half, Torre, who was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week today, nailed her third three-pointer of the opening period to give the Broncs a 17-point advantage, their largest lead of the half, at 34-17. The Dustdevils closed out the period on an 8-2 run and trailed 36-25 at the intermission. The Broncs were sharp from the outside, but struggled with their overall first-half field-goal percentage. The Broncs shot 47% in the first half from the three-point line but just 30% overall.
In the second half the Broncs were unstoppable. Roy Valencia scored the first basket of the half cutting the Broncs lead to single digits at 36-27. This was the closest the Dustdevils would get for the remainder of the contest.
