The U.S Customs and Border Protection Honor Guard got some cheers from NBA fans this week.

A group of customs officers from Brownsville was invited to present the National Colors at the Houston Rockets/Los Angeles Lakers game on Wednesday night.

The Brownsville Honor Guard was formed nearly five years ago but the Wednesday night game was their first opportunity to present the American flag at a professional sporting event.

The Rockets lost to the Lakers in a tight 103-102 game but customs officers who participated said it was worth the trip.

“My team was very excited to be invited by the Houston Field Office to present the colors at this game,” said Chief Jesus Baez.  “We have the full support of our port director, Mr. Michael Freeman and our director of Field Operations, Ms. Leticia Moran.”
