Texas Leads RGV 2-0 In Best-Of-Seven Series
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS -- The Texas Brahmas took a 2-0 series lead by edging the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 5-4 in Game 2 of their best-of-seven playoff series Sunday.
RGV’s Brennan Sarazin, in his first pro game, put the Killer Bees up 1-0 at 12:01 of the first. Texas took a 2-1 lead with goals 1:18 apart by Greg McConnell and Brandon Benedict.
Rio’s Matt Byrnes tied things at 2 with his first playoff goal 6:20 into the middle stanza before the Brahmas rattled off three goals in a row. Benedict notched his second of the game at 14:48 of the second and then Jason Deitsch made it 4-2 with one second left in the period.
Tyler Skworchinski gave Texas a three-goal lead with his third of the playoffs at 6:24 of the third before the Bees battled back to within one goal.
Grant Goeckner-Zoeller and Evan Rankin each potted power play goals but RGV couldn’t jam the equalizer past goalie Brett Jaeger, who made 17 saves. Wylie Rogers stopped 29 in the loss.
The series shifts to RGV for Game 3 on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
