EDINBURG, TX -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men’s basketball team got back to .500 with a 71-57 victory over the University of New Orleans Privateers on Sunday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Brandon Provost led three Broncs (15-15) in double-figures, scoring a game-high 20 points with a career-high tying 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal for his second-career double-double and first of the season. Provost went 7-for-12 from the field, 3-for-8 from behind the arc and 3-for-3 from the line. Jesus Delgado scored 14 points with a career-high tying seven assists. Aaron Urbanus scored 11 points with four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Delgado and Urbanus combined for five more assists than the entire Privateers (8-18) team (12-to-7).

Rarlensee Nelson led the Privateers with 14 points and three assists. Cory Dixon scored 10 points with five rebounds.

Down 20-18 late in the first half, Delgado scored nine points to power an 18-4 over the next seven minutes to give the Broncs a 36-24 lead early in the second half.

The Privateers got as close as five three times after that, including at 56-51 after a pair of Nelson free throws with 3:30 remaining, but Provost converted a three-point play and Urbanus hit a three-pointer to spark an 11-0 run that put the Broncs up 67-51 less than two minutes later.

The Broncs close the regular season against the Great West Conference champion New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse. It’s the second game of a single-admission doubleheader, as the UTPA women’s basketball team hosts Chicago State at 4:30 p.m.
