Passenger killed in early morning crash, driver flees scene

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers continue to investigate a single vehicle accident that left one person dead around 4:30 a.m.

Troopers told Action 4 News the vehicle, a Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound on Alberta road at a high rate of speed.
 
The driver of the Altima lost control, struck a chain link fence, and slammed into several trees.
 
According to Troopers the driver of that vehicle fled the scene and a passenger, 31-year-old Edward Gomez of Edinburg was killed.

A woman, who was also in the car, was transported to McAllen Medical and is listed in stable condition.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call DPS Weslaco at 565-7600.
