Couples from the Rio Grande Valley are among those scrambling around the globe to get married on a special date: 12-12-12.

Those choosing to tie the knot today are hoping the special date will bring some extra good luck to their marriages.

That was the case for the Benigno and Erica Garza Brownsville.

After 11 years together and two children, the couple decided to exchange vows today in Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar's courtroom.

The blushing bride told Action 4 News that 12 has always been her lucky number.

"My birthday is on the 12, his is in December so that's 12,” Erica Garza said. “My son's in December. It's 12. And my brother and my nephew is on the 12th, so it's always been significant for me."

Judge Salazar is reported to be the most requested justice of the peace for marriages in Cameron County.

She attributes it to the good advice she likes to give the newlyweds.

“I do all different types of weddings and sometimes the way I do them, I make people happy, cry and laugh,” Judge Salazar said.
