Shopping for a Thanksgiving meal will more than likely require a couple baskets of groceries full of ham, stuffing, and pie.

However, for some families in the Rio Grande Valley, a turkey meal with all the trimmings could be hard to come by.

But one family's strength touched the hearts of our Action 4 News staff, and in the spirit of giving, the entire TV station decided to pay it forward in our own way.

"It’s breathtaking,” said Rebecca Tanguma. “It makes it a lot easier to breathe it all in."

Raul Tanguma from Harlingen has been battling cancer for 21 years.

Together he and his wife Rebecca have seven children.

Financial struggles and medical expenses would have prevented the family of nine from having a proper Thanksgiving dinner.

We heard about the family's story, and our staff, from sales to news, arrived at Crockett Elementary School to provide the Tanguma family with Thanksgiving groceries and a $100 gift certificate to HEB.

But it's the family's reaction and love for one another that warmed the hearts of everyone in the room.

"With God's help and God's blessings, it makes it a lot easier to wake up every morning,” said Rebecca. “We just to have keep on walking and to keep on fighting. God comes first."

The family says they will always remain strong, no matter what struggles they face, and no matter what time of the year.

"We appreciate channel four for all of this,” said Raul. “We appreciate it a lot."

Mr. and Mrs. Tanguma say they are most of all thankful for their seven children, for each other, and for the opportunity that Raul can live another day.
